Spiked coffee is warmly welcomed at most dinner parties and is often a great accompaniment or replacement for dessert. Be prepared to keep the drinks flowing well past dinner has been served. Here are a few spins on your traditional boozy brews that you can make ahead.
Tiramisu Topped Kahlua Coffee
This sweet coffee cocktail is great for a cold weather warmup. Feel free to replace the coffee and booze with hot cocoa and decaf espresso if needed for prego wives like me or the kiddies.
- Freshly brewed coffee for 4
- 4-6 oz kahlua
- 1/2 cup mascarpone cheese
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Shaved chocolate for topping
- 8 Ladyfingers (buy or make your own)
Place mascarpone cheese, heavy cream, sugar and vanilla in a medium bowl and beat with an electric mixer until cream is thickened and smooth. Store in the fridge until your ready to use.
When it’s time to serve, pour fresh coffee into mugs (clear ones if you have em) and stir an ounce or so of kahlua in each. To finish, pipe or spoon mascarpone cream on top, pleace 2 lady fingers on each and sprinkle with chocolate shavings. Dessert in a cup!
Pumped Up Pumpkin Spice Latte
- 4 cups milk
- 4 tablespoons canned pumpkin
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 4 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- 4 shots espresso
- 4 shots dark rum
- Whipped cream
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- Nutmeg for top
In a saucepan stir together milk, pumpkin and sugar. Cook and stir over medium heat until steaming. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and pumpkin pie spice, whip the mixture really well with a wire whisk. Pour one shot of espresso and one shot of rum in each mug and top with milk mixture. Top with a dollop or rosette of whipped cream, a sprinkle of nutmeg and pop in a cinnamon stick or two for stirring. Voila!
Peppermint Americano
Not into fancy dancy whipped up coffee? Keep it simple by spiking your joe with some classic schnapps.
- 4 – 6 oz Peppermint Schnapps
- 4 – double shots of espresso
- Hot water
Make 4 Americanos by pulling two shots of espresso atop of hot water in each mug. Finish each with an ounce or so of schnapps. If you don’t want to be completely boring, add a candy cane to each mug for some festive joy.
